Our Story

I Built This for Ma — and for Everyone Like Her

The story behind Savvy Silver Tech, and why a career IT professional decided to build something different.

Where This Started

I've spent my career in IT. I know how networks work, how to secure a system, how to troubleshoot just about anything with a screen and a power button. Technology is literally my job.

And yet, there I was — on the phone with my Ma, 300 miles away, trying to walk her through something on her phone — and I couldn't explain it in a way that actually landed.

Not because she isn't smart. She's one of the sharpest people I know. But because everything I learned in my career was designed for people like me, not for people like her. The tutorials assumed too much. The support lines were a maze. The "simple" guides weren't simple at all.

"I only ever had my Ma growing up. She is everything. And watching her feel confused, frustrated, or worse — vulnerable to the scams that specifically target people her age — that hits different."

It made me want to do something about it. So I did.

What Savvy Silver Tech Actually Is

This isn't a corporate tech blog written by a committee. It's me — a real IT professional — writing guides the way I'd explain things to Ma. Plain English. No jargon. No condescension. Just: here's what you need to know, here's why it matters, and here's exactly what to do.

I also built this for people like me — adult children who love their parents but don't live down the street anymore. The ones doing tech troubleshooting over the phone from 100, 300, 500 miles away, trying to describe where a button is on a screen they can't see. That particular kind of helpless frustration is something I know personally, and it's why the "For Families" section of this site exists.

Whether you're a senior or a grown kid helping your parent —

Why You Can Trust This

I'm not selling anything disguised as advice. When I recommend a product or service, I'll tell you straight — including if I earn a referral fee for it. You deserve to know that.

Everything here is written from real experience. I've worked in IT professionally. I've sat at kitchen tables walking family members through technology that should have been simpler. I've seen what happens when older adults get targeted by scams, and I've helped clean up the mess.

I don't talk down to seniors. I don't oversimplify to the point of being useless. I find the middle ground — the explanation that actually makes sense and actually helps. 🎯

Let's Make This Less Complicated

Technology should connect people, not frustrate them. It should give seniors more independence, not less. And the families walking alongside their parents deserve a resource that speaks their language too.

That's what I'm building here.

I'm glad you found it — and so is Ma.
